Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise!
Let the earth and all living things join in.
Psalm 98:7
Colossal waves filled with power,
Displaying glory every hour.
From the shores of the Great Lakes to the beaches of the Gulf Coast, to the coastline of California, to the sands of numerous Pacific Islands, waves maintain their ebb and flow with unrelenting rhythm. Their majesty and mystery draw the bold and daring to explore their breadths and widths and sometimes their depths.
Our Heavenly Father set the limits of the seas so they would not spread beyond their boundaries (Proverbs 8:29). He parted the waters of the sea for his people to cross to freedom on dry ground (Exodus 14:21-22). He who also throws all of our wrongdoings into the deepest sea (Micah 7:19) gives us Jesus, the cleansing Fountain who washes away our sins and scrubs our stained and soiled lives (Zechariah 13:1).
Pause and take time to watch to the waves breaking on the sea shore. Consider their heights, the space between each one, and the way the sun plays on their foamy crests. Notice the shore line, whether it is sandy, rocky, muddy, or grassy and how the sound of the waves might change if it were different. What might our Father be speaking to you in this moment?
Praise our Heavenly Father for the swells and surges of the sea. Praise him for his Son, Jesus, the Fountain that makes us clean.
Pray.
Heavenly Father,
You are the Sea Shaper.
Fill my hours with marvelous praise for you.
Amen.
